Cologne Jazzweek: Hochstapler
The Hochstapler have been working together cooperatively since 2011. The collective and egalitarian way of working is reflected in the joy of playing. The jointly written pieces are only given structure and form live and are renegotiated in a constant process of deconstruction. The unconditional joy of experimentation is part of the concept, as is a tongue-in-cheek reference to jazz history. For their new program, The Impostors have taken on the quotes from Thelonious Monk that circulate as "Monk's Advice". They take requests such as "Let's lift the bandstand!", "You got to dig it to dig it, you dig?" and "Always know" literally and decode them metaphorically. For the impostors, the resulting templates become a reshaping of Monk's music and an examination of the personality of this solitaire of jazz history.
