Johanna Borchert & Miles Perkin
The word "match" has many meanings - it can mean compatibility or conflict. So it is no coincidence that the recently released debut album by Copenhagen-based pianist Johanna Borchert and Canadian, Berlin-based double bassist Miles Perkin is entitled "The Match", as their music reflects these opposites. As a duo, they create a unique world of sound that combines jazz, contemporary music and improvisation. Advanced playing techniques are combined with songwriting and pop music, alternating between abstract and catchy sounds. Their music addresses the challenges of life - doubt, fear, mistrust and inner conflict in turbulent times. At the same time, it offers a place of refuge and peace.
Johanna Borchert, born in Berlin and living in Copenhagen, began her musical training in classical music, but has developed into a significant voice on the modern music scene. She has worked with artists such as Fred Frith and Petter Eldh and her albums have won several awards.
Miles Perkin, born in Canada, has lived in Berlin since 2010 and has worked with international artists such as Lhasa de Sela and Feist. He has released a number of albums and composed soundtracks for theater and film productions.
