Tom-Tom Discotec presents: Emile Omar
Support: Asal, Hatomoto Racing Team & Hermes
When Strut Records released the three-part series Disques Debs International, Emile Omar was one of the brains behind the selection. Together with Hugo Mendez (Sofrito), he curated the first part, making the musical heritage of the Caribbean label Debs accessible to a new audience. Omar is best known for Radio Nova in Paris. He has been shaping the evenings there for many years with his broadcasts, in which he combines global music worlds - from Caribbean classics and tropical to soul and disco.
He has influenced generations of DJs and producers beyond the radio. Names such as Cami Laye Okun are exemplary of a younger scene that feels inspired by Omar's work and develops its own perspectives on global sounds. Emile Omar moves between archivist and explorer, between DJ booth and radio studio - and shows that tropical music is not a genre from the past, but an open space for the present
