Melissa Aldana Quartet
Melissa Aldana is one of the great saxophonists of today. Inspired by the life and works of Frida Kahlo, the Chilean creates parallels between her experiences as a saxophonist in a male-dominated community and Kahlo's experiences as a visual artist who had to assert herself in a male-dominated profession. She has a full dark tone reminiscent of Sonny Rollins and Joe Henderson. The contrast is provided by the relaxed playing of Norwegian guitarist Lage Lund. It evokes associations with Sonny Rollins' quartet with guitarist Jim Hall on "The Bridge" (1962) or guitarist John Abercrombie's quartet with saxophonist Joe Lovano on "Within A Song" (2012). Completing the quartet are Pabro Menares on bass and Kush Abadey on drums. They expand the space with the rhythmic-harmonic component and thus give the ensemble sound the decisive addition.

Heidi Bayer KORSH
Bandleader, trumpeter and composer Heidi Bayer pursues in KORSH the idea to dust off the accordion from its often folkloristic image. Kalle Moberg, who plays the accordion in such a way that in places one no longer recognizes it as such, but instead suspects electronic arrangements, flutes, clarinets and an organ badly in need of repair, was exactly what she had in mind. Sven Decker on tenor saxophone & bass clarinet, Robert Landfermann on bass and Oli Steidle on drums are in best company with Kalle Moberg when it comes to pushing the sound of their instruments to its limits. In addition to strong and catchy melodies and polished detail, Bayer's music also leaves room for free islands that make their way between and within the compositions. Conceptually, there are individual motifs that run through many pieces like a delicate thread through a suite. Elements from film and video game music, contemporary jazz, hip-hop, punk rock and improvised music merge into an overall sound in her compositions.
