Under his stage name Bahamas, Canadian Afie Jurvanen has created an alter ego that has quickly been crowned with great success with a mix of indie, folk and country. His song "Lost In The Light" has gone double platinum in Canada and, with over 224 million Spotify streams, is one of the singer's biggest successes alongside his US platinum hit single "All The Time". But Bahamas was already able to wow the music industry with his debut album "Pink Strat" in 2009 and celebrate his first JUNO Award nomination for Roots & Traditional Solo Album of the Year. Further JUNO nominations followed: Songwriter of the Year for the songs "Be My Witness", "Caught Me Thinking" and "Lost In The Light" as well as for Adult Alternative Album of the Year with his albums "Barchords" (2012) and "Bahamas Is Afie" (2014), before the Grammy-nominated album "Earthtones" (2018) and "Sad Hunk" (2020) won the JUNO Award. In 2024, his latest album "Bootcut" (2023) was nominated for Alternative Country Album of the Year by the Canadian Country Music Association. In the same year, he released his EP "I Must Be In A Good Place Now". Bahamas is now coming to Germany on a solo tour in November and will be performing at Hamburg's Nochtspeicher and JAKI.

Afie Jurvanen was born in Toronto in 1973 to a Finnish mother and taught himself to play the guitar. He first began performing publicly as a solo musician in the early 2000s. He initially distanced himself from his first name Afie and found an alias, Bahamas, under which he began releasing music in 2009. After his debut album "Pink Strat" (2009), "Barchords" brought him into the US charts for the first time, where he reached number 14 in both the US Heatseekers Charts and the US Folk Charts and achieved gold status in Canada. Both "Bahamas Is Afie" (2014) and "Earthtones" landed in the Top 5 of the Canadian album charts and marked the musician's most successful period to date. In 2015, he won the Songwriter of the Year Award at the 2015 JUNO Awards for his "Bahamas Is Afie" songs "All The Time", "Bitter Memories" and "Stronger Than That". In 2019, "Earthtones" received a nomination for "Best Engineered Album, Non Classical" at the 2019 Grammy Awards after the album reached its highest position ever at #3 on the Heatseekers chart. After the albums "Sad Hunk" (2020) and "Bootcut" (2023), Bahamas turned to quieter tones on the "I Must Be In A Good Place Now" EP in 2024. In April 2025, his current single "Please Don't Return" followed the same musical path.
