CGNYC: Cologne meets New York: Mariel Roberts Musa
In the "CGNYC - Cologne meets New York" series, Florian Herzog invites New York musicians to create exciting concerts in an exclusive line-up in a first meeting with Cologne musicians. On this special date at JAKI, there will be a second special guest alongside Mariel Roberts in the form of exiled New Yorker Camila Nebbia.
The American cellist Mariel Roberts is known for her virtuoso performances and as a "fearless explorer" in her field (Chicago Reader). Her work combines avant-garde, contemporary, classical and improvised music. As a member and co-director of the Wet Ink Ensemble and as part of the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), she has performed worldwide, including at the Lincoln Center Festival (NYC), Wien Modern, and the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. Roberts has released two solo albums of new works, including "Nonextraneous Sounds" (2012) and "Cartography" (2017), which cemented her position as a central figure in the New York new music scene. Her major collaborators include artists such as George Lewis, Tim Hecker, and Ambrose Akinmusire.
