Cologne Jazzweek: Dust Bunny
"Dust Bunny" is the German word for a wool mouse. This is the name given to balls of organic and inorganic materials that are often found in hard-to-reach corners of a home. "Dust Bunny" is also the title of a horror movie and the name of a character in a computer game. Dust Bunny is also the name "Featured Artist" Marta Warelis and drummer Nasim Lopez-Palcios Navarro have given their duo. You could almost say it's the Berlin-based Pole's pop music sidekick - if it weren't for her anarchic joy in sweeping away beautiful sounds and melodies as soon as they appear in the performance. It is a ritualistic music that the two play, with which they attempt to impetuously push opposites to their limits. Warelis on synthesizer and keyboards and Navarro on drums play naturally across the dividing lines between prog rock and noise, ambient and free jazz, celebrating a wild rave that is loud, hypnotic and iridescent at the same time.
