Cologne Jazzweek: Roger Kintopf Trio

The Roger Kintopf Trio is the latest project by bassist and composer Roger Kintopf, one of the established figures of the Cologne scene. At Cologne Jazzweek, the ensemble will make its debut.
At the heart of the ensemble is Kintopf’s music, sharp and fluid, with clear structures and plenty of room for interaction. Combining fixed forms with open improvisation, they create a sound that remains in constant motion, continually sending the three musicians down new paths. Joining him are two of the most exciting voices of their generation. Emmanuel Michael has long been a fixture on the New York scene and regularly performs alongside Ambrose Akinmusire and Marcus Gilmore. As a bandleader of various projects and a sideman, Sun-Mi Hong is one of the most influential drummers in the European scene and has received countless awards for her music.
Together, they combine virtuosity with a sensitive creative vision, presented live for the first time at Cologne Jazzweek.
