Der Literarische Salon mit Tom Schulz

Tom Schulz is one of the best poets in the German language. His poetry, as the Austrian radio station Österreichischer Rundfunk put it, "loosely challenges the convention of how the world is to be thought and what we have to understand by reality." Schulz, who was born in 1970 in Upper Lusatia and now lives in Berlin, has published twelve volumes of poetry since the 1990s, many of which have been translated into other languages. And they all raise the question of the changing aspect of "beautiful literature", seeking a space-time of the human. In his new volume SALZ UND ERINNERN, Schulz travels to places of his own and other people's history, from the former Stalinallee in East Berlin to Budapest and the Danube. Cross-fades and flashbacks. Destroyed Berlin, post-war. Serbia, thirty years after the horrors of war. Remembering means becoming aware, it asks for an attitude towards the world and things. Deutschlandfunk radio said of his work: "Tom Schulz teaches us to see perfection in what is unfinished and open on all sides, without ignoring the danger that man has put creation in."

The Literary Salon:
Since 2066, Guy Helminger and Navid Kermani have been inviting writers they are passionate about to their Literary Salon in Cologne's Stadtgarten. The guest reads from his or her own books, but also brings texts and music that are particularly important to him or her.
