Concert
Öffentliche Probe: John Hollenbeck & Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra
The Cologne Contemporary Orchestra and the legendary percussionist and composer John Hollenbeck invite you to a public rehearsal to gain unusual insights into the American musician's joint work with the CCJO.
With free admission, the Big Band and their guest open the otherwise closed and always very intimate rehearsal room to make part of the process behind the joint concert on the following Sunday, 12 May at 6 p.m. accessible.
Immediately after the public rehearsal, John Hollenbeck is on "Speak Like A Child" with Michael Rüsenberg and also answers questions from the audience.
In the 90s, Hollenbeck made a name for himself as a versatile drummer, performing in big bands such as Bob Brookmeyer's New Art Orchestra and the Village Vanguard Orchestra as well as with modern jazz musicians Fred Hersch, Kenny Wheeler and Tony Malaby. In New Music circles he became known above all for his many years of collaboration with Meredith Monk.
As a composer and drummer, Hollenbeck has gained widespread recognition as the driving force behind the unclassifiable Claudia Quintet and the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble, contemporary groups with roots in jazz and world music. He has been nominated for four Grammy Awards for his work and has received awards such as the ASCAP Vanguard Award and the Doris Duke Performing Artist Award.
Hollenbeck is professor for percussion and ensemble at the Jazz Institute Berlin and has taught as a visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the New School in New York City.
