Foggy Notion: Molly Lewis "On The Lips"

This is the invitation to Café Molly, a lounge bar unlike any other. The lights are dim, the martinis are ice cold, the benches are velvet, and the stage is ready for the electrifying talent of piper Molly Lewis. After the exotic style of The Forgotten Edge EP and the Tropicalia-inspired Mirage EP, Molly wanted to capture the sound of Café Molly for her debut album On The Lips, a dreamy homage to classic mood music that conjures misty visions of classic Hollywood jazz clubs, Italian cinema soundtracks and long-lasting embraces between lovers.

Recorded with producer Thomas Brenneck of the Menahan Street Band at his newly constructed Diamond West Studios in Pasadena, and with an open-door policy during the sessions, a number of acclaimed musicians landed on the album's 10 tracks, including Nick Hakim, Latin Grammy-nominated Brazilian guitarist Rogê, Leland Whitty and Chester Hansen from the Canadian instrumental group Badbadnotgood, the Chicano soul group Thee Sacred Souls, who can be heard on the melancholic "Crushed Velvet", the experimental jazz pianist Marco Benevento and Leon Michels from El Michels Affair. With her infectious compositions and quirky stagecraft (she may not sing, but she can tell jokes), Molly Lewis will go down in the history of the Los Angeles lounge scene and beyond. So all that's left to do is pull up a chair, order your favorite drink and fall in love with "On The Lips".
