Gordi
"Being surrounded by death reminded me how beautiful life is.... I thought about how we are molded in life like plasticine - by forces we can't control, that bend us, stretch us and test our resilience. But sometimes even painful change can be a beautiful thing."
With these thoughts in mind, the Australian musician, singer and producer Gordi - real name Sophie Payten - has written her third studio album "Like Plasticine". It is an intimate reflection on the formative years of her life: her coming out as a queer woman, the associated changes in her life planning and her experiences as a doctor on the front line during the pandemic. In twelve songs, she explores the fragility, beauty and pain of being human.
Musically, "Like Plasticine" moves between atmospheric pop and experimental sound art. From the rousing euphoria of "Peripheral Lover" and the dark tension of "Alien Cowboy" to the emotional depth of "PVC Divide" and the tender moments in "Lunch At Dune" - each song is a sound universe in its own right, carried by Gordi's haunting voice and a multi-layered, clever production. Together they create a moving overall picture that touches both personally and universally. For fans and new listeners alike, "Like Plasticine" is an album full of heart, mind and emotional depth - a work that will resonate for a long time to come.
