Like plants and animals, fungi are multicellular organisms. Fungi consist of branching single-stranded threads called hyphae (Greek Ύφή, meaning tissue). This image of a dynamic fabric composed of strands of hyphae is the starting point for a performance research on forms of touch and connection by Mouvoir and guests, under the artistic direction of Stephanie Thiersch. The result is the experimental movement study Hyphea, which explores the question of which processes are released when we bring the human into harmony with the vegetable, flesh and stone, fusing them into a new structure. Hyphea draws our attention to how we constantly and anew connect with our environment as well as to the wondrous entanglements of an ecology that horizontalizes and does not hierarchize - thus utopian scenarios of connectedness unfold.
Hyphea is a production of Mouvoir in co-production with the Academy of World Arts. The research for Hyphea takes place within the framework of TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media, the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Cultural Office of the City of Cologne, Neustart Kultur. In cooperation with tanzhaus nrw, Freihandelszone - Ensemblenetzwerk Köln.
