"Marfox & Nervoso love to play b2b. It's a biblical affair, beautiful and shining happiness for the dancefloor and back. They have done it off and on for about 15 years now, from the neighborhood parties, outside in the ball courts and little basements of cafés, to weddings, baptisms, high school gym balls, etc. Out of borders, they've only done it once, at Unsound Krakow in a 3 hour ecstatic narrative."

The "IN BETWEEN SPACES" club night presented by Cologne Sessions brings together AFRODEUTSCHE's techno inspired by Drexciya and Underground Resistance with a rarely heard B2B of the two Godfathers of Portuguese-Angolan Kuduro sounds DJ MARFOX and DJ NERVOSO and a culinary DJ excursion with NO OBI, NO INSERT.

DJ NERVOSO, born in the Portuguese-speaking island nation of São Tomé and Príncipe in the Gulf of Guinea, off the west equatorial coast of Central Africa, has lived for more than two decades in Quinta do Mocho, on the periphery of Lisbon. His exciting DJ sets, which fuse the hard, hynotic rhythm and frenetic energy of Angolan kuduro with more straightforward technoid influences, were an essential spark for all the intoxicating progressive kuduro mutations of DJ Marfox, DJ Firmeza or DJ Nigga Fox in the early 2000s.

DJ MARFOX, who also came to Lisbon from São Tomé and Príncipe, sees his cultural roots as an important driving force for a creative, technological and - perhaps most importantly - collective social evolution. The "DJs di Ghetto" compilation with his crew of the same name achieved cult status in Portugal and diasporic African communities throughout Europe. With "Eu Sei Quem Sou'n" (Principe, 2011) he articulated a cheeky poetics with complex driving percussion, dark baroque techno, garage, bass and batida. After further releases, e.g. on Lit City Trax and Warp, and remixes for tUnE-yArDs, Elza Soares or Panda Bear (Animal Collective), he is currently working on a commissioned composition for the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

AFRODEUTSCHE (aka Henrietta Smith-Rolla), is a Ghanaian-Russian-German producer, singer and DJ from Manchester. Their DJ-sets are floating light and demanding, between Drexciya-Electro, dark bouncing House and hard British Techno á la Claro Intelecto and Randomer.

Lauritz aka NO OBI NO INSERT is the operator of probably the most exciting and obscure Youtube channel in NRW and a true connoisseur of various genres and rarities. Besides, he also delivered one of the - Cologne Sessions-interm - absolute favourite ambient mixes of all times.

IN BETWEEN SPACES: Mediterranean Crossings" opens the thematic line Hybrid Transactions of the Academy of the Arts of the World, exploring the meaning of hybridity in the face of the unprecedented exchange of people, cultures, goods and expectations in the present time and especially in the Western context.
