Jannis Sicker Solo || CHEEL - Volkmann, Andrzejewski, Matsuno

The solo program of Cologne guitarist Jannis Sicker improvisationally combines influences from ambient, jazz, electronics and folk. Arrangements of more or less well-known songs and melodies from video game history are part of the repertoire.

CHEEL's music is a continuous flow, contemplative and rhythmic. This band does not play short pieces, but entire sets: a state of suspension in which sometimes folky-wild, sometimes lyrical-noisy compositions emerge.

The trio unites the Cologne saxophonist Luise Volkmann with drummer Max Andrzejewski and guitarist Keisuke Matsuno from Berlin. All three have been nominated for the German Jazz Award in the past.
The trio's pieces are playful instrumentations with an openness to unexpected changes of direction. CHEEL thus combines folk, new music and punky rhythm textures. The result is a very unique signature within contemporary jazz music.

CHEEL has also toured internationally recently - on a South Asia tour in 2024, as well as a radio broadcast on France Musique in Paris.
