Jazz at Green Room: Henning Sieverts Symmethree - "Blues"

The latest album by Henning Sieverts Symmethree called Triple B is all about the blues. On this fourth album by the trio, everything revolves around the power of three chords and twelve bars - the musicians play with the given musical parameters: often there are more or sometimes fewer chords or bars, sometimes bar after bar is taken away and then added again. Metric, melodic and harmonic gimmicks that bring new, distinctive beauty to the familiar blues sounds - without ever losing the archaic power of the blues.

The unusual instrumentation of "Symmethree" with trombone, guitar and bass/cello allows for delightful, tonal fusions and a constantly changing distribution of tasks: Everyone sometimes plays melody, sometimes bass function - in other words, grassroots music-making, as Henning Sieverts emphasizes: "We've been playing in this trio since 2011 and have had a lot of time to grow and develop together. Every concert is a pleasurable adventure in which we not only surprise the audience, but also ourselves!"</i

Henning Sieverts is one of the most sought-after bassists and cellists in Europe with over 150 releases and concerts all over the world. He has won the ECHO Jazz, the "1st Prize" of the "International Society of Bassists" and - twice - the "New German Jazz Prize".

Ronny Graupe's (also German Jazz Award) masterful and unconventional playing on the 7-string guitar is appreciated by musicians as diverse as Wanja Slavin, Christian Lillinger and Rolf Kühn.

Moritz Renner began his musical education at an early age. He took piano lessons at the age of 8. His first trombone lessons followed at the age of 13. He played in the German National Youth Jazz Orchestra and with Gregory Porter, Lionel Loueke, Seamus Blake & Peter Erskine, among others. In addition to his work as co-leader of RENNER and bandleader of the Moritz Renner Group and the Moritz Renner Jazz Orchestra, he also plays regularly in the Jazzrausch Bigband and other small and large formations.
