Jazz at Green Room: Jakob Jäger Quartett

After years of intensive work in various constellations, Jakob Jäger presents his new quartet. As a bandleader and composer, he combines experience from very different musical contexts: From his training with the Windsbacher Knabenchor, as the youngest bassist invited to audition for the WDR Big Band or from working with musicians such as Christian McBride, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Pablo Held and Ben van Gelder.
These influences form a personal musical language in which he combines the music of his childhood - classical music, chorales, evening songs - with modern jazz, the music of his passion. Compositional clarity meets improvisational openness.
He is accompanied by his close friends and inspiring fellow musicians Jakob Bänsch (trumpet, German Jazz Award 2024), Maxim Burtsev (piano) and Niklas Wittig (drums). All four also share the experience of being members of the Bundesjazzorchester. Their close collaboration in recent years has resulted in a homogeneous band sound that reveals American jazz traditions without denying their European roots.
