Jazz at Green Room: Justin Zitt's FRIGO

The trio around the Mannheim pianist is searching somewhere. They have found their own musical language, which follows its own grammar. Despite appropriating avant-garde vocabulary from new music and contemporary jazz, they never lose their sense of effects, musical arcs - and therefore - accessibility. The balanced sound of the acoustic trio is just as much a component as the complexity of polyrhythmic structures and the multidimensionality of greatly expanded harmonies, which are explored in the original compositions. The nebulous polyphony of the three individuals gives rise to unique music whose statements are formulated with great intensity and seriousness.
Justin Zitt and Julian Grüneberg (bass) have been playing together for over three years now and have gained a lot of concert experience (e.g. Landesjazzfest BaWü, Jazzfestival Freiburg). At their concert in the Green Room of the Stadtgarten, they feature the excellent Fabian Arends on drums.

Justin Zitt is a 21-year-old jazz pianist from Mannheim. After joining the "Jazz Juniors" jazz promotion program of the state of Baden-Württemberg as a teenager and subsequently completing preliminary studies at the HMDK Stuttgart with Hubert Nuss, he is now studying for a Bachelor's degree at the Mannheim University of Music. There he was taught by Rainer Böhm and Lorenz Kellhuber, among others. He recently won 1st prize at the 8th International Piano Competition in Freiburg, was also a member of the Gutenberg Jazz Collective (2022/23) of the Jazz Campus Mainz and is a scholarship holder of the Deutschlandstipendium. He has also been a scholarship holder of the Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation since 2024. As part of the GJC, he has already played concerts with Ingrid Jensen, Kris Davis, Becca Stevens, Billy Hart and Ben Street. Other performances have taken him to stages across Germany, France and the UK, including with well-known musicians such as Nils Landgren, Rich Perry, Wanja Slavin, Mareike Wiening, Phil Donkin, Menzel Mutzke, Alex Goodman, Stefan Karl Schmid, Peter Gall and many more.
