The special instrumentation of Organic Universe, which has two wind instruments in the frontline but no guitar - which is indispensable in the classical organ band - creates a very special sound. The legendary recording "Unity" with bandleader Larry Young on the organ, Joe Henderson on the saxophone, a brilliant 20-year-old Woody Shaw on trumpet and the great Elvin Jones on drums was a style-setter for this band format. "Organic Universe" unites some of the best European jazz musicians of the younger generation; the band plays contemporary original compositions and mixes them with freshly arranged standards.
