Jazz at JAKI: Christine Corvisier 5tet "Chanson de Cologne"
For some years now, the Cologne-based jazz saxophonist Christine Corvisier has been intensively involved with the subject of chansons. Starting from this, she has developed a new sound language and dared to build a musical bridge between the cultural heritage of France (her country of origin), Germany (her home) and the USA (cradle and spearhead of jazz). The melodies of the chansons are mostly well known, even in Germany (Charles Aznavour, Edith Piaf... ). All the more, a new interpretation, moreover without lyrics, promises to expose and illuminate further levels of meaning. Thus the resulting music corresponds to their own identity: a mixture of cultures in which different influences coexist on an equal footing, contrasting, interacting.
Christine Corvisier (tenor sax), Lars Duppler (piano), Philipp Brämswig (guitar), Calvin Lennig (double bass), Mareike Wiening (drums)
