The special instrumentation of Organic Universe, which features two horns in the frontline but no guitar - which is indispensable in the classic organ band - creates a very unique sound. The legendary recording "Unity" with bandleader Larry Young on organ, Joe Henderson on saxophone, a brilliant 20-year-old Woody Shaw on trumpet and the great Elvin Jones on drums set the style for this band format. "Organic Universe" brings together some of the best European jazz musicians of the younger generation; the band plays contemporary original compositions and mixes them with freshly arranged standards.
