Jazz at JAKI: Stein/Hauptmann/Herzog/Berger

Bastian Stein, one of the most interesting representatives of modern jazz, combines compositional virtuosity with narrative power. His music moves between great form and playful moments. His warm and effortless sound as well as his technical flexibility and expressive playing style can be heard on more than 30 albums.

Emphatic, perceptive and independent - pianist and composer Felix Hauptmann is constantly working on finding his own musical language and demonstrates this, for example, in his trio PERCUSSION. His compositions are characterized by a subtle balance between structure and freedom, whereby he pays particular attention to timbre and rhythmic complexity.

Florian Herzog, bassist and composer, is a pioneer of the German and international jazz and avant-garde scenes. After stints in the Netherlands, Cologne and New York, he develops projects that virtuously fuse jazz, pop and electronic music.

Leif Berger has been a musician since he received his first drum kit in 1997. A few years later, he moved to Cologne. Here he learned things like improvisation, friendship, taking his dreams seriously, listening and playing in many bands. Today he also describes himself as a composer, pianist, keyboardist, drummer, bandleader and teacher.
