Jazz at JAKI: Wiening’s Cologne Five

Four individual voices from the Cologne jazz scene come together in a unique ensemble: saxophonist Joachim Lenhardt, pianist Billy Test, guitarist Philipp Brämswig, bassist Calvin Lennig and (former Cologne) drummer Mareike Wiening bring fresh energy, exciting soundscapes and improvisational depth to the stage.
What characterizes this formation is the equal musical communication: the compositions arise from the collective, the pieces live from spontaneity, tonal sophistication and the individual signature of each musician. Sound surfaces meet rhythmic structures, blurring the boundaries between contemporary jazz, free improvisation and chamber music elements.
