Brice Soniano - acoustic bass

lately and his work on this album is a superb example of the role of the bass in contemporary
music; no longer a background support but a soloist of equal standing and importance to the
other band members. His tone, technique and ability to converse with his cohorts is nothing

Brice was born in France in 1979, studied at the Conservatorium of The Hague in The
Netherlands. His fnal exam was said to be historical by the headmaster as he was the frst
musician to have followed successfully both classical and jazz educations at the same time.
After his studies, Brice went to the rainforest of Cameroon to experience daily life with a
BAKA pygmy population (for about 6 months) and since he returned to Europe he has
devoted his life to creative music. Brice has been soloist with l’Orchestre de Montpellier, has
played with several new music ensemble in the Netherlands, and is constantly in tour through
Europe playing jazz and improvised music. He co-leads a trio with Harmen Fraanje and Toma
Gouband, a duo with Joachim Badenhorst, the trio 3/4 Peace with Ben Sluijs and Christian
Mendoza, and is part of the Lionel Beuvens Quartet, of Joachim Badenhorst’ Carate Urio
Orchestra, of Erik Bogaert’s Mephiti (…)
Brice has about 20 albums to his record, and is about to release his frst album as a
leader/composer on his new label ASTROPI (collaboration with Toma Gouband and Harmen
Fraanje).
He has recorded/played with musicians such as Michael Moore, Ernst Reijseger, Mark
Dresser, Mark Feldman, Magic Malik, Fredrik Ljungkvist, Nelson Veras, Alexi Tuomarila, Lotte
Anker, Peter Evans to name a few
Brice lives in Denmark with his family and is a guest teacher at the Conservatory of Music of
Antwerpen.

Natashia studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with teacher David Linx and at the
Conservatory CNSMDP in Paris :
Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
She has a duo with Brice Soniano on double bass.
They were laureaat at the Crest Jazz Vocal contest 2016, France.
They were selected in the categorie 'Young Talent' to play at the Ostend Theater Festival in August

2016. TAZ.
      They were selected for a residency and concerts at 'Détours de Babel Festival 2018' in Grenoble
      ( France).
      They were selected for a creation residency and concerts in ' Antwerpen Barok 2018. Rubens
      inspireert.'
      In addition to her duo, she has also a group: Natashia Kelly Group. This group released their debut
      EP in February 2016 which was very well received and was picked up by national radio Klara in
      Belgium.
      Demo recording duo Natashia Kelly – Brice Soniano recorded by Koen Gisen was again picked up
      by radio Klara in oktober 2017.

      June 2011, obtaind a Master degree Jazz-singing in the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with
      vocal teacher David Linx. In the Conservatory of Brussels she had classes with: Diederik Wissels,
      Christophe Wallemme, Nathalie Loriers, John Rocco, Kris Defoort, David Linx,......
      2010, last Master year she was selected with Erasmus exchange in the Conservatory of Paris
      CNSMDP . ( Conservatoire National Supérieur Music et de Danse Paris) In CNSMDP and she had
      Masterclasses and played with: Anders Jormin, Fred Hersch, Billy Hart, Bruno Chevillon, Larry
      Grenadier,....
      In CNSMDP she took classic singing lessons with Alain Buet.
      • in October 2010 preformed with the Bigband of CNSMDP in Théatre Châtelet in Paris. - in
        December 2010 participated with a project of Fred Hersch
      • May 2010: Performance with the Project “Happy Update Schumann” created and conducted by
        Kris Defoort. It was a mix between the classic music of Robert Schumann and jazz.
        June 2010: backing vocals with “ James Baldwin Project” David Linx- Aka Moon in KVS Brussels.
        2009: Laureate with vocal group “Brussels Vocal Project” of the Dinant Jazz Competition.
