Kaisa Mäensivu, Sasha Berliner, Nicole McCabe & Mareike Wiening

Four remarkable musicians have come together for a joint tour: vibraphonist Sasha Berliner, saxophonist Nicole McCabe, bassist Kaisa Mäensivu and drummer, composer and bandleader Mareike Wiening. All four are critically acclaimed and have won numerous awards. While Mareike Wiening holds a professorship for jazz percussion in Vienna and Zurich, her three fellow musicians live and work in the USA and are signed to the best labels. The extraordinary virtuosity and creativity of this quartet will turn the concert into a musical grab bag.

Nicole McCabe is a saxophonist, composer and teacher from Marin County, California. She lives and works in Los Angeles and is a rising star in the city's interdisciplinary scenes. "Mosaic," her fourth and most recent album as a bandleader, was produced by Jeff Parker and showcases McCabe's complex tone and growing textural sensibility in a post-bop tradition that she combines with practiced creative verve and surprise. McCabe has also collaborated with Ari Hoenig, Dan Weiss, David Binney, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Gerald Clayton, Genevieve Artadi and 10.4 Rog.

Sasha Berliner, described by JazzTimes as a "young master of the mallet", is an award-winning vibraphonist and composer based in both New York City and Los Angeles. In addition to her own bands, she has been a member of Tyshawn Sorey's sextet since 2018 and has worked with musicians such as Nicholas Payton, Ravi Coltrane, Beck, Warren Wolf and Victor Wooten.

Kaisa Mäensivu, originally from Finland, is a bassist, composer and bandleader based in New York City. Her imaginative and energetic playing, described by Hrayr Attarian in All About Jazz as "uniquely creative", is more than in demand internationally. The 26-year-old is known to Cologne audiences through her band Kaisa's Machine, among others.

Drummer Mareike Wiening actually needs no further introduction in Cologne. She holds a professorship for jazz drums in Vienna and Zurich and works in countless projects and line-ups, including with Dave Douglas or John Zorn's Cobra as well as with Fabian Almazan, Johannes Enders, Ben Wendel, Florian Weber and many others.
