Karja/Kintopf/Gentile is a trio that redefines the boundaries of improvised music. With Kirke Karja on piano, Roger Kintopf on bass and Kate Gentile on drums, they create fascinating soundscapes that surprise and captivate in equal measure. Their music is a symbiosis of depth and interaction that breaks with convention and comes across as organic and intuitive. The three musicians communicate in a way that goes far beyond the usual. They take up musical ideas, weave them together, leave room for silence and sudden outbursts, and seem to be connected by an invisible bond. Their music is free and experimental, but never chaotic. It moves in a field of tension between structure and spontaneity, between dissonance and harmony, and manages to touch deeply on an emotional level.
