Konzert des diesjährigen Preisträgers des Horst und Gretl Will Stipendiums: Roger Kintopf's Cipher

Roger Kintopf’s CIPHER creates a novel soundscape: music as structured poetry, a sonic landscape that simultaneously breaks apart and comes together. The ensemble reimagines musical spaces and takes each composition into uncharted realms—with absolute devotion to curiosity, vulnerability, and human connection. An invitation to engage with this carefully crafted musical language.

Kintopf’s compositions defy conventional categorization by blending dodecaphonic principles with improvisational elements. His works are ciphers that create depth through the various layers between the compositional framework and interpretation, draw meaning from open spaces, and demand a reorientation of one’s own approach to playing and listening. Roger Kintopf’s CIPHER navigates between mapped territories and intuitive reactions—with compositions that are not meant to serve as finished statements, but rather as frameworks for discovery.
