Loren Stillman Trio
Saxophonist and composer Loren Stillman, born in London and raised in New York, and Cologne-based drummer Jonas Burgwinkel have enjoyed a deep musical and personal friendship for some time. Together with bassist Robert Landfermann, they play music that is inspired by the expressive yet refined music of Lee Konitz, Warne Marsh and Paul Motian. It is a river that flows through the landscapes of the soul, evoking times gone by and promising exciting possibilities.
Loren Stillman has established himself as an innovative and influential voice in modern jazz. His portfolio includes collaborations with the Charlie Haden Liberation Music Orchestra, the Paul Motian Trio 2000+2, Carla Bley, John Abercrombie and Michael Formanek: Ensemble Kolassus.
"Alto saxophonist Loren Stillman conveys great intensity, but not much drama. What you hear in his playing is the real-time synthesis of information, mainly melodic and harmonic, and the rigorous subtlety of his response. He combines uncannily mature instincts with the open-minded spark of youth." (Nate Chinen, The New York Times)
