Lotus Flower Trio © Jérôme Prébois
Lotus Flower Trio
The lotus flower, which grows in Asia and Australia, shows that beauty can also emerge in a swamp. A strangely fitting allegory for our current troubled, disturbed world. The compositions by French pianist Bruno Angelini are a tribute to the "lotus flowers" of our history, to heroes such as Wayne Shorter, Jane Addams, Berta Cacerès or Nelson Mandela, who have worked for the common good in their own way. The core of the pieces is formed by verve-rich melodies, which the pianist and the two saxophonists Sakina Abdou and Angelika Niescier interpret with raw lyricism and a great deal of freedom.
A musical homage to the extraordinary women and men who have fought or are fighting as beacons for the social, political, ecological, artistic and scientific concerns of our world, and who have often had to pay with their lives. The premiere took place at the Jazzdor Festival 2024 in Berlin.
Angelika Niescier (alto saxophone), Sakina Abdou (tenor saxophone), Bruno Angelini (piano, composition)
