Lucatelli – Engel – Mahnig „Groove and Transcendence“

The ensemble unites multi-artist Marcela Lucatelli on piano and voice, saxophonist Jonas Engel and drummer Dominik Mahnig in radical vocal experiments and self-confident avant-garde jazz. Based on grooves and inspired by Fred Moten's concept of fugitivity, the trio deconstructs and reconstructs musical structures to reveal moments of rupture, deviation and transcendence. The combination of jazz, experimental performance and free improvisation creates an intense web of sound - raw and elegant at the same time.

A highlight of the trio was their acclaimed concert at the Copenhagen Jazz Festival at the Royal Danish Playhouse: a collective ecstatic experience of screaming and singing that drew the audience into the transformative power of sound. On their upcoming tour of Germany, they will present concerts in which groove is both structure and rebellion - a musical response to the idea of crisis and an opening up of new spaces for music and listeners alike.
