On his groundbreaking tenth studio album, "In the Spirit of Ntu," visionary South African pianist, composer, improviser and healer Nduduzo Makhathini condenses the thematic, sonic and conceptual ideas he has explored to date into a multi-layered yet accessible program that he will present with his brand new trio at Stadtgarten.

Makhathini, first South African musician on the famous Blue Note label, knows how to tell his stories on stage with particular urgency: Despite the clear determination in the pianist's sound language, he lovingly combines his piano playing with the songs of his native Zulu language. Just as Makhathini builds on the universes of sound he has previously created in his own canon, he uses the ideas, practices and experiences of pre-colonial Africa to create new ways of hearing, feeling and being.
