NICA exchange × CJW: Vera Morais – EUPNEA
Portuguese singer, improviser, and composer Vera Morais presents, with her ensemble EUPNEA, a subtle project that bridges jazz and contemporary music. Voices and flutes merge into a unified sound, conceived less as a traditional ensemble and more as a single, living instrument. Drawing on the sonic affinities between the two instruments, Morais develops a minimalist, immediate form of chamber music.
Her works operate at the intersection of composition and improvisation, focusing on the voice as an independent, malleable instrument. Following the single mirror error (2023), her self-titled debut album was released in February 2026 on Carimbo Porta-Jazz. It crystallizes an approach that expands technical possibilities and challenges conventional roles. The concert creates an intimate listening space where sound, breath, and silence interact with precise interplay.
This concert takes place at the Stoffpavillon Möller, located between Neumarkt and Rudolfplatz.
The concert is the result of a collaboration between Cologne Jazzweek, NICA artist development, and Porta Jazz.
