NICA exchange x CJW: Nefertiti Quartet 'Live in Paris'
Named after a composition by Wayne Shorter, the young French band around pianist and composer Delphine Deau is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. The jubilee is accompanied by the release of their fourth album 'Live in Paris' (BERTHOLD Records), dedicated to the place where Camille Maussion, Pierre Demange, Pedro Ivo Ferreira and Delphine Deau first met and decided to make music together. The band loves to play freely and demonstrates this more than before on the upcoming release. After playing around and shadowing, the form emerges and the composition crystallises. Paradoxical and delightfully liberating. After many years of collaboration and friendship, the band performs with a matured and well-rehearsed band sound.
The Nefertiti Quartet won the Euroradio Jazz Competition 2019 and was a selected band for Jazz Migration #5, a support programme of the Association Jazzé Croisé (AJC). In April, Delphine Deau was a guest in Cologne as part of the Constellations pilot project, of which NICA artist development is a part. She got to know venues, musicians and other actors in the scene. The concert as part of 'NICA exchange' is a natural continuation of this research visit and will also feature someone from the local scene.
NICA exchange takes place in cooperation with the NICA artist development programme and Cologne Jazzweek. The main focus of the concert series initiated in 2022 is to create spaces of exchange for a young, experimental generation of musicians, to encourage sustainable networking and creative exchange, and at the same time, in the context of the festival, to initiate a connection with an audience eager to make discoveries.
