NICA live: Jorik Bergman "Take me to Space"

"Take me to Space" is the latest project by flutist and composer Jorik Bergman: a courageous attempt to leave the earthly grip behind and orbit through music. With guitarist Teis Semey from Amsterdam, electric bassist Louise van den Heuvel from Brussels, pianist Felix Hauptmann and drummer Alexander Parzhuber from Cologne, she has invited four up-and-coming musicians from the young European scene.

To mark their second concert as part of "NICA live", Jorik Bergman has composed a new program that documents their longing and desire to leave the here and now and escape into the vastness of the incessant. Together, the four embark on an extraterrestrial journey. Inspired by (Afro-)futurism, science fiction films such as "Star Wars" and "2001: A Space Odyssey" and real space travel, they take off with acoustic flute sounds and an electrifying, groove-based rhythm section. With "Take me to Space", Bergman has built a hybrid of soaring poly-chords, trippy odd beats and minimalist sound explorations, resulting in a sound that takes us out of this world and into another.
