NICA live: Theresia Philipp presents Lasse Matthiessen
Danish musician Lasse Matthiessen moves between intimacy and cinematic expansiveness in his music. Using his voice, guitar, and electronic textures, he creates an atmospheric soundscape that blends Nordic melancholy with modern, emotional pop. At the invitation of saxophonist and NICA artist Theresia Philipp, Matthiessen is a guest at NICA live, where he presents two distinct sides of his artistry: In his solo set, he develops remarkable intensity using minimalist means. His warm voice is carried by guitar, subtle beats, and shimmering synth textures. In the second set, he is accompanied by a band of musicians from Cologne, who lend his songs additional power. Whether solo or with a band, the focus is on Matthiessen’s songs about fleeting encounters, memory, intimacy, and the passage of time.
The musician, who divides his time between Copenhagen and Berlin, has previously opened for artists such as Clueso, Anna Calvi, Glen Hansard, and Suzanne Vega, and has appeared as a featured artist on TV Noir, among other projects. With his latest release, Night Train, Matthiessen blends an intimate, folk-inspired sensibility with electronically influenced indie pop.
