NICA live x CGNYC: Futurbarock x Chris Williams & Lester St. Louis

Two concert series, one evening: "CGNYC - Cologne meets New York City" meets "NICA live".

In the first concert of the evening, cellist Elisabeth Coudoux will bring together instruments from the 16th century and contemporary electronic sound production in an exciting dialog. Three string players and two electronic musicians represent a small but impressive section of a globally networked scene that is working on new sound languages and musical forms of expression. Based on string instruments as open, sonically diverse systems, flexible, structuring modules are created in a collective process - shaped by physically performative playing styles and the use of extended techniques. The international quartet creates an intermodal sound architecture that opens up new interfaces between acoustic and electronic sound with non-linear playing sequences.

In the second set, the electro-acoustic duo HxH from New York - consisting of the trumpeter and interdisciplinary artist Chris Williams and the cellist, composer and sound artist Lester St. Louis - meets the Cologne musicians Florian Herzog (double bass) and Fabian Arends (drums). HxH operate at the interface of improvisation, sound art and radical musical expression. With trumpet, cello and live electronics, they create immersive soundscapes that move between finely chiseled textures, driving rhythms and eruptive moments. Their concerts are dense, energetic explorations of space, time and collectivity - a maelstrom of sound and intuition.

In the series "CGNYC - Cologne meets New York City", Florian Herzog invites New York musicians to create exciting concerts in a first encounter with musicians from Cologne. "NICA live" is a regular concert series of the NICA artist development program and focuses on the work of NICA artists in a national and international context.
