Rainer Maria Rilke's "Improvisations from the Caprese Winter" occupy a special place in his lyrical oeuvre. Written in Capri in 1906 and 1907, this cycle of verses in no way anticipates Rilke's "Ding-Gedichte" ("Thing Poems") written shortly afterwards, but attempts to capture the meaning of what is being said through the sound of the spoken word; no special preparation is needed for this, only intuition and emotion count. This is another reason why this poem is a gift for an improvisation artist like Tamara Lukasheva. This Cologne-based singer and pianist, who was born in Odesa, Ukraine in 1988, is also often concerned with getting behind things with her voice and getting to the original meaning of something. Her singing is both a mediator and a medium. The person Tamara Lukasheva recedes into the background in order to experience the essence and the fundamentals of Rilke's verses solely through the timbre of her voice - pure, pure and genuine.
