Songlines mit Hannes Wittmer
Das Ende der Geschichte
Songlines goes in search of honest pop music - always with the urge to discover something new. In the GREEN ROOM, amidst green bushes and under large trees, the Stadtgarten team presents this summer artists* who make every Friday something special.
Actually Hannes Wittmer is in Canada right now. After he discarded his alter ego "Spaceman Spiff" in 2018, turned his back on the music business with his album "Das große Spektakel" and subsequently played numerous concerts on a pay-what-you-want-basis, he wanted to cross the Atlantic on a cargo ship to leave the intensive time behind for a few months and work on new ideas.
As with so many others, the coronavirus changed everything completely. In this restless time, which combines standstill and escalation in a strange way, "The End of History" has now been created, a handful of songs about the events of the time. In twenty haunting minutes Hannes sings and talks about fears, helplessness, hope, human nature and saying goodbye to old familiar things. Instead of living in Canada, he now lives on a camping site near Würzburg. The apartment had long since been cancelled for the trip and so even parts of the recordings were made with electricity from the solar system in the self-constructed camping bus. These are insecure times, but sometimes these are exactly the ones that offer room for new ideas.
