Studio DAN feat. Ingrid Laubrock & Tom Rainey

The Viennese ensemble Studio Dan continues its collaboration with Ingrid Laubrock, winner of the German Jazz Award 2025. The New York-based saxophonist and composer is one of the most innovative voices of a generation that sees jazz, improvisation and contemporary music not as separate worlds, but as an open field. Her works move between precise composition and free improvisation - concentrated, multi-layered and full of energy.
In 2023, Laubrock wrote the piece Zones 1+2 for Studio Dan, premiered at Klangspuren Schwaz and later at Porgy & Bess in Vienna as part of Wien Modern. This successful collaboration was the start of an intensive artistic partnership. A new work is now being created for 2026, which will be premiered and recorded together with Laubrock and percussionist Tom Rainey - one of the most distinctive improvisers of our time.
Studio Dan has been working at the interface of jazz, avant-garde and new music since it was founded. The ensemble has found a congenial partner in Ingrid Laubrock: both share the courage not to avoid friction and ruptures, but to see them as a motor of artistic energy.
