Concert
Terrence Ngassa & Band
Der VVK ist beendet. Es sind noch ausreichend Tickets an der Abendkasse verfügbar.
Terrence Ngassa, trumpeter, singer, composer and lyricist, is one of the leading representatives of jazz and a role model for the current generation of African musicians. The African's trumpet playing is enormous, of crystal-clear brilliance, once with eruptive and unbridled power, another time with young sweetness, dreamy and painting glowing images of the continent.
He is considered the best trumpeter in Africa. With his ensemble he succeeds in transforming the African musical heritage into the idiom of jazz. Afro-Ethno-Jazz-Funk: A sound mix of melodic and rhythmic elements, characterized by humor and happiness. The ensemble transports a natural and impetuous urge for strong colours and rhythms.
Ngassa is one of the leading exponents of African jazz with a trumpet playing that is so present and certainly influenced by jazz heroes such as Louis Armstrong, the young Miles Davis and Clifford Brown, versatility and crossover styles. All this, combined with his devotion to his cultural roots, makes Terrence Ngassa a very independent musician, which brought him to Mnafred Schoof , Jasper van't Hoff's Pili Pili and Paul Kuhn among others.
For his current project, Ngassa has put together a wonderful band that he can lead through all kinds of different terrain with tremendous ease. The Swiss François de Ribaupierre not only captivates with his bass clarinet, but also with his empathetic drive on the tenor saxophone.
Jura Wajda is certainly the right pianist with his unusual background: the Czech studied classical composition before studying jazz piano with Frank Wunsch at the Musikhochschule Köln. And always this bass from Andreas Reinhard! Christian Fehre (Congas) and Benedikt Hesse (Drums) and trombonist Tobias Link are responsible for the percussion.
Precise drumming, dancing bass figures, impressionistic piano sound nebulae and accurate brass movements are grouped around the trumpeter from Cameroon. Hot riffs and virtuoso solos contrast with balladesque empathy. The pieces are compositions seasoned with a powerful pinch of African peculiarity.
