When Samy Ben Redjeb is behind the turntables, the future sounds like the past. With his cult label Analog Africa, founded in 2005, the Tunisian digging pioneer has been traveling across the African continent and through Latin America for two decades to rescue lost masterpieces from oblivion. He tracks down dusty audio tapes, conducts interviews with the legends of yesteryear, and brings the golden years of global groove back to today’s sound systems. The result is an unmistakable, wonderfully raw analog sound: a wild symbiosis of West African funk, raw Afrobeat, Ethiopian jazz, Caribbean influences, and rare rhythms like Edo funk or cavacha. When Ben Redjeb takes the decks, the dance floor instantly transforms into a sweat-drenched, global celebration—excessive, unfiltered, and full of the joy of discovery.
The evening is rounded out by EL FLAMBO, who grew up in Caracas in the ’80s and ’90s amidst Caribbean soundscapes. As a staunch advocate of pure vinyl culture, he weaves heavy salsa, raw cumbias, and tropical gems into a rhythmic tapestry that leaves no room for a break.
Rounding out the evening are two trusted selectors from the Cologne scene: Asal from the Milieu Tropical collective brings a hand-picked selection of Cape Verdean funaná, zouk, and Senegalese compas, while Tom-Tom curator Hermes Villena lays the musical foundation for a night that effortlessly blurs genre boundaries.
