Trio Abstrakt
Trio Abstrakt is a Cologne-based ensemble for new music founded in 2016 and consisting of Salim Javaid (saxophone), Shiau-Shiuan Hung (drums) and Marlies Debacker (piano).
The instrumentation is reminiscent of a chamber music ensemble as well as a free jazz band - this allows the musicians to draw on an extensive sonic and expressive arsenal, whereby the focus is always on performing a "music of today" that draws on a rich musical history but never shies away from genre transgression and an engagement with the now.
In this program, the trio is expanded to include electronics and electric guitar, presenting a new music that appears in the guise of rock and electronic music rather than contemporary chamber music.
