zamus: early music festival // Oxford Maqam - Hollywood am Nil
Tango aus dem Goldenen Zeitalter Ägyptens
With the establishment of radio and film, a new golden age of music dawned in Egypt. The flourishing film and music industry absorbed influences from all over the world, and so Cairo also became the birthplace of an unusual new style: the Arabic tango. It combines the unique texture of Latin America with classical Egyptian music, and the migrant communities from Italy, France, Greece, Armenia and Latin America that emerged in Cairo and Alexandria have also left their mark. The unmistakable sound of this rich and exciting period of Egyptian music is now brought to life by Oxford Maqam.
