Christof Van Der Ven
Christof van der Ven grew up near Eindhoven. Constantly exposed to his mother's music, between classical and the protest folk of the 60s and 70s. As a young adult, he moved to Galway in Ireland, where he stayed for four years and recorded his first two EPs with the financial support of a few friends. This was followed by a move to London, where he initially made another "career" by chance, so to speak: thanks to his creative cooking skills, he literally rose from dishwasher to chef - an occupation that brought him fun, but could never have replaced music.
Little by little, word of the young Dutchman's qualities spread through the London music scene - with great subtlety, he always knows how to put his playing entirely at the service of a song and at the same time put his unmistakable stamp on it. A whole series of bands have subsequently made use of these qualities, above all Bear's Den, with whom Christof van der Ven has toured the USA and Europe several times.
Meanwhile, he continued to write and arrange his own songs bit by bit. Without any pressure, but with the sole aim of making each individual song something unique. As his debut album "Empty Handed" proves, he succeeded brilliantly. At their core, his songs are all based on the anti-folk of recent years, surrounded by many sonic gimmicks: Massive use of keyboards, strange field sounds and a highly individual sense of sound aesthetics.
