Cologne Music Week: maïa / Hanna Noir
maïa was born into melancholy. She began writing texts at the age of twelve: short poems and snapshots. Back then, she wrote in English until Ferdinand von Schirach's literature showed her how much power the German language can have: "It's an incredibly banal way of writing. And that makes the things he writes 20 times more emotional. This directness simply tears you apart," she says.
So she continues to write in German and begins to find her own voice more and more with every line. She documents this development on Instagram. At some point, she learns to play the piano and guitar - and so lyrics become lyrics, lines become melodies and pages become songs.
Hanna Noir stands for energetic sound mixes of drum & bass and UK garage with emotional lyrics. The content of the songs: a thematic potpourri of experiences of love, friendship and self-determination. Direct, cheeky and with the right touch of activism. The Hamburg-born singer speaks in pictures in order to
to appeal to a variety of listeners, to whom she offers a safe space through her art with multi-layered lyrics. "Hanna Noir means free thinking and breaking boundaries," she says herself. With a
growing catalog, Hanna Noir has been able to play various concerts as an independent artist and release her first feature songs. Hanna convinces with her own sound aesthetic on the new EP "Noch Wach I Schon Wach 1".
