NICA live: Pablo Gīw

Trumpeter and performer Pablo Gīw from Cologne, Germany plays music that is based on experimental trumpet playing with extended playing techniques, he works with elements from various genres, combining minimalist structures with noise & poetry. With his instrument he creates dense sound walls and hissing beats made of air sounding to his vocals and spoken word lyrics. Having electronic music in mind but creating it by mostly acoustic means, GĪW redefines his role as a trumpet player and uses his instrument as sound generator for complex harmonic layers, a drum machine or as a filter for his voice.

His solo album "Never Is Always" was released in 2017 on his label ti-Records. His latest album "Kyro" - a duo collaboration - with New York cellist Mariel Roberts was released in February 2023.

Since 2019, Gīw has been part of NICA artist development based at Stadtgarten Köln and says goodbye to the programme on this evening.
