Abgesagt! NICA live: Theresia Philipp presents Henri Maximilian Jakobs & Claudia Döffinger "zwischen zeilen"

Saxophonist and composer Theresia Philipp - NICA artist 2023 - is currently working intensively on combining text and music in her own projects and is using the "NICA live" evenings she created in 2024 to extend this interest. She invites inspiring authors and musicians to create special evenings together. Two extraordinary artists will be guests on July 8: author and musician Henri Maximilian Jakobs and composer and pianist Claudia Döffinger.

Henri Maximilian Jakobs is a musician, actor and author who lives in Berlin. He is a trained bassist and music journalist and has released three records with his band TUBBE and tours with artists such as Sookee and The toten Crackhuren im Kofferraum. In 2019, he was the protagonist of the podcast "Transformer" by Christina Wolf, which won the German Audiobook Award in the podcast category. He can currently be seen in the acclaimed production of "The Life of Vernon Subutex" directed by Thomas Ostermeier at the Schaubühne Berlin. His debut novel "Paradiesische Zustände" was published by KiWi in June 2023.

One of the great passions of pianist and composer Claudia Döffinger is writing for big band. She released her first big band album "Monochrome" in 2018. Döffinger has been living in Cologne since summer 2021 and composes, arranges and works a lot for large ensembles such as the hr Big Band, Subway Jazz Orchestra, Spielvereinigung Süd, UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and others. She is also the founder of several smaller ensembles with which she has actively toured the world and released albums: fourscape's third album "Better angry than sad" was released in 2020 and ELiNOR's debut album "von oben" in 2021.

"Where to put all the feelings when they explode and spill over? The best place is between lines and chords. Overlay melody lines that you can sing along to fervently. You'll feel more grounded afterwards. I promise." This is how Döffinger sums up her project "zwischen zeilen" with Henri Maximilian Jakobs. Döffinger's music perfectly complements the texts by Henri Maximilian Jakobs and so we can expect a rousing maelstrom of words and sound at the premiere performance.
