Or Bareket Quartet
Born in Jerusalem to Moroccan, Iraqi, Argentinian and Eastern European parents, raised between Buenos Aires and Tel Aviv and living in Brooklyn since 2011, Or Bareket is one of the most distinguished bassists of his generation, a composer and bandleader with an eclectic yet meticulously coherent style. Bareket, who won the International Society of Bassists jazz competition in 2011, is characterized by a distinct lyricism, rhythmic dexterity and a groove-oriented approach in both his playing and compositions.
Having grown up trilingual, Bareket is fascinated by the overlaps and differences between different languages and cultures. Musical practice and composition are Bareket's way of exploring the spaces between and within languages, weaving the different worlds he lost through immigration and the worlds he lives in today into a personal aesthetic that seeks to incorporate and honor them all: The folklore of his North African, Iraqi and Latin American ancestors, his lifelong study of Black American music and his experiences playing with some of today's leading artists, covers a broad spectrum of musical generations and stylistic directions.
The Or Bareket Quartet is made up of some of the greatest talents on their respective instruments: Alto saxophonist Godwin Louis, pianist Jeremy Corren and drummer Savannah Harris. Bareket's third album "SAHAR" was released in 2022 on Enja Records and took the quartet on tour across the EU, USA and Japan.
