Concert
Preisträgerkonzert von Luise Volkmann
Autochrom
From the Horst and Gretl Will Scholarship jury's statement on their decision to award the prize to Luise Volkmann: "Her enormous creativity as a composer made a lasting impression on and surprised the jury, especially since her music, for all its underlying constructiveness and careful planning - which is evident, among other things, in the accompanying scores - never lacks the vitality and energetic intensity that still distinguishes refined contemporary jazz from contemporary serious music. According to her own formulation, she is interested in "the establishment of an emancipatedly genuine jazz compositional style"; she has already made promising progress along this path."
Luise Volkmann presents an excerpt of her musical oeuvre
In the first part of the evening she performs with her new trio.
The second part of the concert will be performed by Luise Volkmann together with the Trio Autochrom.
"In jazz, most musical personalities make a basic decision in favour of an abstract or life-like style of playing. With Autochrom, an intellectual ordinariness asserts itself that is rarely found in this matter-of-factness. The songs are highly compatible with everyday life without sacrificing the abstract moments. Luise Volkmann has intuitively tapped her fund through selective research, as she herself calls it. "I like the wisdom of the situational, whether it's philosophical or human contexts. You can raise the biggest questions that way. There's an incredible poetry to it that always triggers something. That kind of intellectuality is very close to me, not least as a form of expression in music."
