The Dutch saxophonist Ben van Gelder is considered one of the most exciting alto players in the world. At the age of 17 he moved to New York where he studied with musicians such as Guillermo Klein, Jason Moran and Lee Konitz. With his New York quintet he recorded critically acclaimed albums and toured Europe, Japan and the USA.
Van Gelder won the Deloitte Jazz Award and the Gold Award presented by the National Endowment for Advancement in the Arts. Recently he was promoted by the Amsterdam Bimhuis and works with the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and the Metropole Orchestra. Ben van Gelder is also part of the faculty of the Conservatory of Amsterdam.
